Mellow Piano Tracks for a Poetry Reading Video: A Guide

Mellow piano tracks for a poetry reading video are easy to describe and harder to find: slow, soft, with space for a spoken voice. Wavecrate's catalog has no solo piano track, so this guide says what it does hold, how to keep any music behind a poem, and which license your video needs.

Mellow piano tracks for a poetry reading video: what Wavecrate holds

On 17 October 2026, every one of the 100 music tracks on the music page was opened and its description read. Seven mention piano, and none says solo piano or grand piano.

  • Four Lo-fi tracks are described as "Dusty swung drums under soft electric piano chords and a little vinyl crackle": Tea and Tape, Night Bus Home, Rainy Window Notes and Paper Lanterns.
  • Three Hip-hop tracks have "a looping piano phrase" under boom-bap drums and deep sub bass, which is too heavy for a poem.

So the closest match to a mellow piano bed is the Lo-fi group, with its soft electric piano chords. Electric piano is not a concert grand, so play each track before you commit. A reader who needs the sound of a real piano will be better served elsewhere.

Slow tracks without piano that still suit a poem

A poem needs a slow, soft bed more than it needs one instrument. Two other genres are worth an hour of your listening.

The Ambient genre had 10 tracks when it was read on 20 October 2026, between 51 and 65 BPM and between 1:30 and 2:11 long. Nine were tagged calm and dreamy and one mysterious and dreamy. Two examples:

  • Slow Tide by Mara Quill: marked Free, calm and dreamy, 60 BPM, 1:32.
  • Glass Cathedral by Orrin Hale: mysterious and dreamy, 56 BPM, 1:30. It suits a darker or stranger poem.

The Acoustic genre has 10 tracks too. Harbor Fog by Sable & Finch is tagged melancholic and nostalgic, runs 80 BPM and 1:21, and fits a poem about memory or loss. These were not checked for piano, so treat them as slow beds, not piano.

How to keep music behind a spoken poem

Music for a reading has one job: leave room for the words. These rules of thumb help.

  • Instrumental only. Singing competes with your lines. On the music page set Vocals to Instrumental.
  • Slow and calm. Set Tempo to Slow (under 90 BPM) and Energy to Calm or Relaxed.
  • Mood that matches the poem. The mood list includes calm, dreamy, nostalgic, melancholic, hopeful and romantic. Pick the one closest to how the poem ends, not how it starts.
  • Few moving parts. Soft chords with space between them leave room for your voice. A track that keeps adding layers will not.
  • Set the level with your voice playing. Never judge the music alone. Then listen once on a phone speaker, and lower the music if you strain to catch a word.

A worked example: a three minute poetry reading

Say you are filming three short poems. Use one track so the video sounds like one piece. Here is one way to place it.

  1. 0:00 to 0:15, opening. The music plays alone while the title shows, then fades down under your first line.
  2. 0:15 to 1:45, poems one and two. The music sits very low, at the same level for both poems, so the change from one poem to the next is felt in your voice and not in the volume.
  3. 1:45 to 2:15, poem three. No music. A silent poem in the middle makes the listener lean in.
  4. 2:15 to 3:00, closing. The music returns, rises for a moment as you say the last line, then fades out.

Each track page lists three versions: the full track, a 30 second edit and a loop of 8 bars. For example, Tea and Tape runs 1:10, 0:29 and 0:23. Most of the Ambient tracks are shorter than the three minute video above, so you would use the loop under the long middle part rather than stretch the full track. Check the length on the page before you plan around it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Wavecrate have solo piano music?

Not on the pages read for this guide. Seven of the 100 music tracks mention piano, four as soft electric piano chords under Lo-fi drums and three as a looping piano phrase in Hip-hop. Listen before you choose.

Should a poetry reading have music the whole way through?

It is your choice. Many readers keep music to the opening, the close and the quiet moments, and leave one poem bare so the voice carries it alone.

Can I use a Free track in a monetized poetry video?

The Free card covers online videos and podcasts, with credit text in your description. Only items marked Free have it, and a free account gets 3 free downloads a month.

Do I need Extended if a client pays me for the video?

Extended lists client work, so read that card first. Standard lists your own business and brand videos.
