Is Evolved 2048 Private? What the Game Keeps About You

Is Evolved 2048 private? What the game keeps about you comes down to this: you can play without an account, and then nothing about you is kept by the game's server. Your game in progress, your best score and your settings are saved in your browser, on your device only. That is the site's own wording on its Privacy page, and this post walks through what it means in practice.

If you want to see it for yourself, Evolved 2048 is free to play in your browser, and you can start a game without signing in. It is the 2048 puzzle on a cube you turn like a Rubik's cube, with six faces of nine squares.

Is Evolved 2048 private? What the game keeps about you

Signed out, the game keeps four things, and all four live in your browser's local storage on your own device:

  • Your game in progress: the tiles on all 54 squares, your score, your move count, the game's mode and a seed used to pick new tiles.
  • Your best score, kept separately for each mode.
  • Your settings: volume, sound effects, music and reduced motion.
  • Whether you have seen the three first-game tips.

The Settings box says the same thing in one line: "Your game, best score and settings are saved on this device." That sentence is the core of the privacy story. The saved game is a note your browser holds, not a record on a server.

The site also counts visits. Its visits page says they are counted with PostHog, with no cookies and no browser storage. So the count does not rely on putting anything in your browser. Read that page for the full wording, because this post only repeats what the site says.

What the game does not need to know

You do not need an account to play. The game says so in its own words: "You can play without an account. An account puts your games on the leaderboard." And in the sign-in prompt: "Playing without an account is still fine."

That means a full session needs nothing from you:

  1. Open the page.
  2. Pick a mode on the "Pick a mode" box (Evolved, Edge or Fun).
  3. Slide, twist and turn until you make 2048 or run out of moves.

You are never asked for a name or an email address to do any of that. The Sign in button and the trophy button sit in the top bar, but nothing in the play loop forces you to touch them.

The turn control is a good example of how little the game records. Turning the whole cube is free: it adds no points and counts no move. So a long session of turning around the cube to look at faces leaves your score and move count alone. In this game only slides and twists count as moves, as the moves counter post explains.

How your scores and progress are stored

Table of what Evolved 2048 keeps signed out and where each item is saved

What the game saves when you play signed out, and where.

The saved game sits under a few keys in your browser's local storage. The names still start with 3d2048, the game's name before 11 October 2026:

  • 3d2048.game holds the cells, score, moves, seed and mode.
  • 3d2048.best holds your best score for each mode.
  • 3d2048.settings holds your settings.
  • 3d2048.coach holds the first-game tips.

This storage is why a reload does not lose your place. In a test on a fresh browser profile, signed out, after 14 arrow-key slides the top bar read Score 64, Best 64 and Moves 14 with 6 tiles. After a page reload the same score, best, moves and tiles came back.

Best scores are kept for each mode. The saved best looked like this after one test: Evolved 20, Edge 0, and Fun 0, where Fun is saved under the name rubik. If you switch modes, the Best box shows that mode's number, not an overall one.

The score itself is plain arithmetic done in your browser. A slide adds the value of every tile its merges make. A twist adds no points. The post on where the best score is kept goes into that part.

What changes when you sign in

Accounts are optional. The Settings box offers "Sign in or create account" under the line "Sign in to put your games on the leaderboard." Here is what the game's own text says about signing in, and no more:

  • A signed-in player's new game asks the server for a ranked game. The game box then says "This ranked game is going on the leaderboard: the server is checking your moves."
  • A game you started before signing in is "not ranked", and the box says "This game was not ranked. Start a new game to be on the leaderboard."
  • The leaderboard box lets you choose a mode (Evolved, Edge, Fun), a board (Fewest moves, Biggest tile, Score) and a time (All time, This week).
  • The leaderboard box says "Every ranked game is checked: the server replays its moves with the game's rules and works out the score itself."

That last line has a privacy consequence worth stating plainly. For a ranked game, the server needs your moves, because it replays them to work out the score. It does not just trust a number your browser sends. That is the trade: to be on a board, a game has to be checkable. The leaderboard post explains how ranked games are checked.

I have not signed in or tried the leaderboard end to end, so this post does not say who can see your name there, what a profile shows or how long ranked games are kept. The game's pages are where those answers would be. If that matters to you, read the Privacy page before you sign in, and stay signed out if you are unsure. The game plays the same either way.

How to check and clear what is saved

You can look at what the game holds without any special tool from the game. Open your browser's developer tools, find local storage for the game's site and read the four keys above. Nothing there is hidden from you.

Here is what you can do with it, based on what was tested:

  • Start over inside the game. The New game button opens the "Pick a mode" box. Sometimes a full-screen ad for another vlvd.net site shows first, and it has a close cross at its top right. Once a game has moves in it, the box reads "This game ends and its score of {score} is kept only if it is your best." It tags the running mode "this game" and has a Keep playing button and a close cross. Picking a mode, even the one already running, starts a new game with Score 0, Moves 0 and two tiles, and your best score for each mode stays.
  • Clear only your best score. In a test, I deleted just the 3d2048.best entry and reloaded. Best read 0, while Score 4 and Moves 3 were unchanged.
  • Clear everything. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes the saved game, best scores, settings and tips from that device.

Two honest limits. First, I found no export button in the game, and nothing in the pages I read describes a delete-account option, so I will not claim one. Second, I only tested the best-score deletion in one browser. A different browser or a phone may word its clear-data screen differently.

Also note the other side of local storage. Because the save lives on one device, it stays on that device. Your game on a laptop is not on your phone, and clearing site data there ends the game and the best scores.

Tips for playing with a smaller data footprint

  1. Stay signed out. Your game, best score and settings stay on your device, and the game's server keeps nothing about you.
  2. Use a private window for a throwaway game. Whether your browser wipes storage when the window closes depends on the browser, so check before relying on it.
  3. Skip the tips you do not need. The first-game tips can be skipped, and the Skip choice stayed after a reload in testing. This only touches one small saved item.
  4. Clear the best score on its own if you want a fresh leaderboard-free record without losing the current game.
  5. Sign in only when you want a ranked game. The post on what an account adds lists what changes. Start a new game after signing in, since a game begun before is not ranked.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to play Evolved 2048?

No. The game says you can play without an account, and an account only puts your games on the leaderboard.

Where is my game saved?

In your browser's local storage, on your own device. The Settings box reads "Your game, best score and settings are saved on this device."

Does the game's server keep anything if I play signed out?

The site's Privacy page says that when you play without an account, nothing about you is kept by the game's server. Visits are counted with PostHog, with no cookies and no browser storage.

Why does the server need my moves in a ranked game?

Because it replays them with the game's rules and works out the score itself. That is how the game checks every ranked game.

Can I export or delete my data from the game?

I did not find an export option, and I have not seen a delete-account option described. You can clear the saved game, best score and settings by clearing the site's data in your browser.

Get started

You can find out how little the game asks of you by playing one round with no sign-in. Play Evolved 2048: it is free to play and runs in your browser on a computer or a phone. Pick a mode, slide the front face, twist a row to carry tiles round, and aim for 2048.
