2048 leaderboard: how ranked games are checked
The 2048 leaderboard in Evolved 2048 does not take your word for a score. Evolved 2048 (called 3D 2048 until 11 October 2026) is the 2048 puzzle on a cube you turn like a Rubik's cube, six faces of nine squares, and since 10 October 2026 it has optional accounts and a leaderboard. This guide explains what the boards rank, how a game becomes a ranked game, and why the game says the server "replays its moves". Everything below was read on 20 October 2026 from the live Leaderboard box, the board data it loads and the game's own messages.
If you only want to play, Evolved 2048 runs free in your browser and needs no account; an account is only for putting your games on the board.

What the 2048 leaderboard shows
Press the trophy button in the top bar, labelled Leaderboard, and a box opens. You do not need to sign in to read it. Signed out, it says: "Sign in to put your games on the board. Playing without an account is still fine." It offers a Sign in button and a Create an account button.
The box has three choices, and each one changes the list:
- Mode: Evolved, Edge or Fun. Each mode has its own boards, as the Pick a mode box says: "each has its own best score and leaderboard."
- Board: Fewest moves, Biggest tile or Score.
- When: All time or This week.

The Leaderboard box, signed out, on the Evolved mode with the Fewest moves board.
That makes eighteen lists in all, three modes by three boards by two periods. A line under the choices says what the current board ranks. Fewest moves reads "Fewest moves to make a 2048 tile. Lower is better." Biggest tile reads "The biggest tile made in one game." Score reads "The highest score in one game."
Which board suits which player
The three boards reward different habits, so pick the one that matches how you play.
- Fewest moves is for planners. You only count if you make a 2048 tile, and the lower your move count, the better. The page tells a player who is missing: "You are not on this board yet: make a 2048 tile in a ranked game." Because a turn of the whole cube is free, it does not push this number up. Our post on how many moves it takes to get 2048 shows what a typical game costs.
- Biggest tile is for survivors. The boards I read held entries with a 128 tile and a 1024 tile, so you do not have to reach 2048 to appear.
- Score is for scorers. It ranks the highest score in one game, whatever tile you end on. How 2048 scoring works explains where the points come from.
How a game becomes a ranked game
A ranked game is one the server knows about from its first move. The game's messages show how that works:
- You sign in. The game says: "Your next game counts for the leaderboard."
- You start a New game. Signed in, the game asks for a ranked game, and the box says: "This ranked game is going on the leaderboard: the server is checking your moves."
- While you play, the game says: "This game counts for the leaderboard: the server checks every move."
- When it ends, it says: "This game is saved to the leaderboard."
The order matters. A game you started before signing in does not turn ranked halfway. The game says: "This game was not ranked. Start a new game to be on the leaderboard." The same goes if you sign out in the middle of a game: "You are signed out, so this game no longer counts for the leaderboard." And if the game cannot reach the leaderboard when you start, it says: "The leaderboard could not be reached, so this game is not ranked."
I did not sign in for this guide, so I have not played a ranked game. The steps above come from the game's own messages, which are in its script file and visible to anyone, not from my own ranked run.
How the server checks a ranked game
The Leaderboard box ends with one line: "Every ranked game is checked: the server replays its moves with the game's rules and works out the score itself."
Read it slowly, because it explains a lot. The game does not send in a score for the server to store. It sends the moves you made: the slides and the twists. The server then plays those moves again on its own copy of the game, using the same rules, and the score it works out is the one that goes on the board. A score you typed in, or changed on your device, would not match the replay, so it cannot reach the board.
That is also why the game says the server is checking your moves while you play, and why a game needs a connection to count. The page does not say more about how the replay works, such as how often moves are sent or what happens to a game that fails the check, so this guide does not guess.
What the boards held on 20 October 2026
I read every list on 20 October 2026, signed out. The Evolved mode had no one on any board, all time or this week. The Edge and Fun modes held only a handful of entries each, all time, and none this week. In other words, the boards are young, and a good game can still take first place.
An empty board reads "No one on this board yet. Be the first." That is a fair prompt: with so few games on the boards, a ranked game you finish is likely to show. The numbers will have moved by the time you read this, so open the box and look.
Your best score is separate
The board is not the same thing as your best score. Your best score is kept on your device for each mode, and it shows in the top bar whether or not you are signed in. 2048 best score: where it is kept and when it resets explains it. The leaderboard only lists ranked games, so a high game played signed out will raise your best score but will not appear on any board.
The game also says what shows on the board next to your result: "Shown on the leaderboard. Your email never is." The line sits next to a name field, so pick a name you are happy to show.
A plan for your first ranked game
Here is a simple plan, using only what the game shows:
- Open the Leaderboard box and look at the mode you like. Check the Score board so you know the number to beat, or note that it is empty.
- Create an account or sign in. Read the message: "Your next game counts for the leaderboard."
- Press New game and pick a mode. If you are not sure which one, Evolved, Edge or Fun: which 2048 mode should you pick compares them. Pick the mode you will play in, since each has its own boards.
- Check that the box says the ranked game is going on the leaderboard. If it does not, start another new game.
- Play to the end without signing out, and keep the page open and online. Then open the Leaderboard box and find your line.
If you are new to the cube, the how to play guide covers slides, twists and turns before you try for a rank.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to play Evolved 2048?
No. The game says: "You can play without an account. An account puts your games on the leaderboard."
Can I cheat on the 2048 leaderboard?
The game says the server replays your moves with the game's rules and works out the score itself, so a score that the moves do not produce cannot be sent in. It does not say more than that.
Does a game I started signed out count?
No. The game says: "This game was not ranked. Start a new game to be on the leaderboard."
Is my email shown on the board?
No. The game says: "Shown on the leaderboard. Your email never is."
Is there one leaderboard or several?
Several. Each of the three modes has boards for fewest moves, biggest tile and score, for all time and for this week.
